Join the Branch Up Active committee!
We are looking for new committee members to join our Branch Up Active team.
Branch Up Active is our mentoring programme that provides extra-curricular sports-based activity days on Saturdays for children aged 8-11, with the aim of increasing their self-esteem and confidence. Each participating child is paired with a student volunteer, who acts as a mentor and positive role model throughout the day.
As a committee member you’ll support us to achieve our mission by engaging other students with this cause and inspiring them to take action.
There are several committee roles to choose when you apply. Please see below for role descriptions:
All committee responsibilities:
  • Attend all Branch Up Active activity days.
  • Attend weekly committee meetings.
  • Plan and lead activities during activity days.
  • Help to collect and drop off young people on activity days.
  • Fundraise for the programme (target of £200 for the year).
  • Organise volunteer socials.
Branch Up Active Coordinator:
  • Organise, schedule and chair weekly committee meetings.
  • Support and assist other committee members to successfully fulfil their role.
  • Plan and budget any resources needed for activity days, including food.
  • Send out letters to parents before each activity day with information and consent forms.
  • Contact community partners (school staff) after activity days to update them on how the day went and send them the newsletter.
  • Default person to start and end sessions during activity days.
Volunteer Coordinator:
  • Work alongside the Publicity Officer to recruit volunteers through freshers/events/social media.
  • Invite volunteers to activity days and update spreadsheet accordingly when confirmed.
  • Ensure all volunteers have completed safeguarding training.
  • Pair volunteers 1:1 with young people before each activity day.
  • Gets university sports groups to volunteer and deliver team activities during activity days.
Activities Coordinator:
  • Research and plan a range of fun and age-appropriate activities alongside the committee and Projects Officer.
  • Research and book venues for activities.
  • Book minibus hire with Bristol Community Transport before each activity day.
  • Complete a session plan for each activity day and distribute to volunteers during briefings.
Publicity Officer:
  • Take photos and collect quotes during activity days.
  • Be aware of who has/has not got photo consent.
  • Create a two page newsletter after each activity day to send out to community partners and funders.
  • Work alongside the Volunteer Coordinator to promote Branch Up Active throughout the year and attract new volunteers.
  • Advertise fundraising events via social media and throughout the university.
How will you be supported?
  • Branch Up Active is managed by a member of the Bristol Hub staff team. You will work with them, and they will support you to flourish as a Branch Up Active committee member and in your personal development.
